MASSAGE THERAPY

Massage therapy is a healthcare approach that manipulates the soft tissues of the body: muscle, tendons and ligaments.

It is a great treatment for a range of injuries and illnesses including chronic pain, rehabilitation purposes, as well as helping reduced stress. During the massage the therapist will use a varying degree of pressure and movement. Regular massage can assist in long term management and maintenance of common injuries/complaints.

Fiona is registered through Massage New Zealand, is Level 6 qualified and also a Southern Cross Easy-claim provider. Southern Cross Easy-Claim is a convenient way for Southern Cross members to claim for eligible healthcare services (massage therapy) at the time of purchase, without having to complete a claim form.

REMEDIAL MASSAGE

Remedial massage focuses on parts of the body that requires specific treatment due to pain or injury. Once the therapist understands the issues causing the pain or injury they will then perform a targeted massage of that area. While remedial massage requires firm pressure, the pressure used during the massage will vary depending on what is best for treating the specific issue.

This sort of treatment will be done over a series of sessions, where the therapist is constantly assessing any improvements or deterioration. This allows them to adjust the treatment and give the client the best possible chance of recovery.

CUPPING THERAPY

Cupping Therapy is a traditional Chinese therapy, which involves placing suction cups on the skin. Cupping helps promote blood flow, promotes cell repair and relieves muscle and fascia tension.

There are two types of cupping techniques that will reutilised in the treatment:

- Movement Cupping: A cup is pulled along the skin, this technique is utilised first to promote blood flow. Skin normally goes red in colour.

- Stationary Cupping: Cups are placed on the skin for up to 20 minutes. The skin in the cup can change from pink through to purple depending on how stagnated the blood is.

This treatment is used alongside a remedial massage treatment if the therapist feels it is needed.

REMEDIAL HOT STONES

Remedial Hot Stone Massage is a massage technique that uses smooth, flat, heated basalt stones. The therapist uses the hot stones to perform massage strokes and triggerpoints on the specific issue area. The heat from the stone relaxes the muscle and promotes blood flow to the area that is being worked which will promote healing.

This treatment is used alongside a remedial massage treatment if the therapist feels it is needed.
